community photo

"I Want to Help" Jack Forcier & Family
Aptos, CA

This is the place!

Get information about Jack's cancer treatment and family events. Sign up for helping tasks, like meals, transportation and errands. Donate money (a little each week if you can) to help with medical expenses, which are enormous.
Leave encouraging messages on the message board

You are here because you care about Jack, Lori and Makayla. And every little bit helps. A meal or volunteering to drive to an appointment can make a huge difference. Contributing to the medical fund or sponsoring an hour or two of respite care ($45/hour) so Lori can get some rest is a life saver.

One kind act at a time, one person at a time makes all the difference. We are so grateful to our friends and family. We love you all so much. Thank you.

Hi Friends-

I took quite a spill a few weeks ago, and managed to break my collarbone and ankle. I had surgery on Friday the 13th, and am currently recovering at St Francis Rehab Center in SF. I'm hoping to be home in Berkeley in about a week, but it depends on how quickly my bones manage to mend.

I'm so grateful for the immense amount of help I've already received! However, I am still going to be unable to do a lot of things for myself for the next month or so. I'd love visitors, rides to Dr appts, and help w errands while in Rehab and after returning home. Food is also very welcome, but not necessary. Thanks again for all the help thus far!!!

This is a site where Emily's friends and family can see what kind of help Emily and Mark will be needing in the weeks after her surgery. Those needs might change as time goes on so check in to see what needs have arisen! We anticipate that help will be needed with meals, dog walking, driving to appointments, child care for those who know and love Phoebe and Lilah and just general support and company for Emily! And oh yes, humor.... An important medicine in the healing process!!
It takes a community !

Welcome to Tommy's Minions website!

As you know, we're here to provide support and show our love.
There have been many generous offers of help for Tommy and some friends want to visit.

There are still a lot of requests to visit Tom but as of November 25, 2014, his condition is such that he does not have the endurance for much socializing.

Tom and his family are overwhelmed by the outpouring of love that he has received. We always thought he is special. Now we know that so many others feel the same!

We are very grateful for all of the help with providing dinner for Tom and his caregivers. Thank you so much. Go Minions!

This is a community created by Maryann Gelman and friends who care about helping Asali Johnson, aka "Ta" with everday tasks and activities. Ta became a quadriplegic 25 years ago after a car accident. Ta has maintained an independent lifestyle with the help of friends and caregivers, but has had a difficult time doing so in recent times. We are looking for a network of friends and helpers to assist with various everyday tasks and activities such as meals, shopping, managing bills and documentation, organization, driving, etc.

If you would like to help, please sign in and choose any number of ways you can contribute either by volunteering for tasks, sending an egift card, choosing an item from her wishlist, or donating to a trust fund. If you would like to learn more about Ta, please see our photo and video gallery. Particularly, her documentary "A Day with Asali Johnson"

Oakland, CA

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands web site. This site provides a place for people to offer help and lend a hand.

From Susie about her surgery:
Just letting you know some details about my knee replacement surgery . IT is happening Monday morning at 7:30 a.m. at Washington Hospital in Fremont. I will be transferred next door after recovery room to the Institute of Joint Replacement/

I will be there 3 nights and 4 days. You can call phil at 821-3504 for an update. If for some reason there is no signal, you can call the Institute directly at 510-797-1111 and ask for me at the Institute of Joint Replacement

They suggest if you want to visit to do so after 3:00 p.m. because the rest of the time I am in rehab, etc. You can park in Valet parking because of construction. It is free.

I hope to go home on the 4th day. We will be staying at Bert's house in Montclair until Phil goes back to Mexico. You can call our cell phone or the land line is 338-3882

If you want to give Phil a hand, call him and you can help with food or dishes, or whatever else that might come up..

Dana and Phil are making a schedule to help when I get home and also when Phil goes back to Mexico. We hope for Phil to go back between 2 and 3 weeks after the surgery. Although Phil could use a little help, once he leaves, I will probably need help with shopping food, laundry, visits to physical therapy, some socializing, getting out and about, maybe even movies.I will be at Scotts house for two weeks when Phil leaves, and then I will go to Lee's house.Again Dana and Phil will be making a schedule for helping me out before and after Phil returns to Mexico. His plan is to stay between 2 and 3 weeks after the surgery, and after we see the doctor and he says that Phil can go.

To help with the plan please call phil at 821-3504 or Dana at 409-0247.

Thanks so much all of you in advance for being part of our team in whatever way that makes sense in your lives.

Gritty City Repertory Youth Theatre General Volunteering Oakland, CA
community photo

Gritty City Repertory Youth Theatre
Oakland, CA

Gritty City Repertory Youth Theatre (Gritty City Rep, or GCR) is the only full-fledged youth theatre company in Oakland! We produce edgy, relevant, professional work with young performers, most of whom attend or are recent graduates of Oakland public schools. We work with 14-22 year olds who are all untrained; most begin with no theatre experience; many have never seen a play. We start with physical theatre techniques to build skills and community, and our ensemble becomes very tight-knit. GCR is rigorous, provides at least a year of theatre training and performance for each participant, and is completely free for youth and their families.

Additional program benefits include two yearly retreats to the redwoods of Butano State Park, free tickets to a wide range of professional theatre, optional weekly tutoring with our Academic Coach, training with numerous guest artists in areas such as acrobatics and stage combat, and a free two-week summer program.

GCR Ensemble performers gain confidence, public speaking, leadership, and collaborative skills, and the ability to meet long-term goals. Each develops close relationships with diverse youth and adults, takes risks, and engages with challenging materials. The rehearsal process (6 hours per week in downtown Oakland) has a deep and lasting impact on performers' focus, study habits, sense of social responsibility, and self-image as positive community members. Ensemble offers young people opportunities to connect to each other, to their communities, and to themselves through theatre. Youth who perform with GCR transform, developing an entirely different view of their capacity for teamwork, endurance, and the ability to move audiences.

GCR performs 2 shows yearly, with a 2-week run of each show. We focus on modern professional productions and vivid Shakespeare themed to engage our urban audiences. One of our main goals is to increase the theatre attendance of young people in Oakland, as we believe that theatre is a natural and exciting community building experience that develops empathy and connection amongst the players AND the audience members.

Desai Family Helpers

Andrew Toby Desai is here! Let's do everything we can to help the Desai's with this gorgeous to addition to their family.
In planning with Emily, we figured out that breakfast/lunch/snacks were actually the hardest part of the day with regard to prep. So, instead of daily dinners, the family would love some help with the first half of the day. Also a few takeout nights thrown in there so they can get their fix of favorites.
In each task I included some ideas, but of course feel free to bring some of your favorites too. I'm sure Elise, Finn & Mia will get a kick out of all the delicious things coming their way.
If you have questions please don't hesitate to contact Joanne at 415-713-1358 or jmosellen@gmail.com.

Please drop-off everything in disposable containers and do not disturb.

The Desai's THANK YOU in advance for all the support coming their way. Our community is incredible!

Heather's Helpers
Redwood City, CA

Welcome to Heather's Helpers. As most of you know, our sweet friend Heather Davila (Ellie, Ian and Dhalia) is fighting breast cancer. She has been so brave, positive and strong and has been doing great through her surgery and recovery.

On Tuesday, Heather had her first of four chemotherapy infusions. She will receive chemo every 21 days. The first week after each infusion will be the worst and Heather and her family will need help with meals, play dates and support. This site has been developed to help Heather through these cycles over the next three months.

If you would like to help, please look at the calendar and sign up or help in any way you feel most compelled. Dinners/meals/gifts can be dropped off any day at the Ormondale school office or at Heather's house.

Heather, Michael and the entire family are so appreciative of the overwhelming love and support they continue to receive.

Warmly,
Lauren Benz, friend :)

He is a very kind appreciative person. He would rather be helping you! :)
In 7 months, ALS has quickly made speech quite difficult, walking slow and unstable, and his energy level rapidly decreasing. He is now out of breath from moving across the room. This is a swift moving disease. He needs help.

-He would appreciate delivered meals on weekdays.
-Housecleaning & laundry help for his small mobile home.

He lives in the Harbor Village mobile home park, Redwood City, Ca.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer

To read updates on Hana's condition:
www.hanasheart.com

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. This site provides a place for people in our area to go to request help as well as for volunteers to offer help and lend a hand.

Hana is Paul and Kathleen's baby born in August of 2014. On February 11, 2015 she was taken to see the pediatrician for what seemed to be an innocent cough and after a quick chest x-ray she was admitted to the Emergency Room at Kaiser to await transport to the Cardiac ICU at UCSF. Her heart was enlarged. UCSF did all they could for Hana but her condition was worsening very rapidly and they life flighted her to Stanford's, Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. The outlook was grim - she was looking like she would need a heart transplant.

To everyone's great surprise, Hana started to improve with medical care. Three weeks after her dramatic entrance to Stanford she was discharged to go home! The intention is to see how she does on medications to prolong the time before she needs a heart transplant, or even, just maybe, there is still a small chance she could even recover. Her arrival back at home, after a sudden departure, with medications and a feeding tube has created a lot of extra care and work for her parents. While they get the hang of all the new and extra things required to care for Hana at home, this site was created to help them out while they adjust to their new routine.

The mission of WeCare is to provide short term assistance to members of our community who have suffered a loss, are ill, or are welcoming a new baby. Some of the services we provide include preparing meals, running errands, arranging rides and visiting with those of our members who are ill. For those members who have suffered a bereavement and have the funeral locally, we provide fruit, cheese and vegetable platters for the meal after the funeral. We also will provide meals for the shiva week. For families with new babies we supply much needed meals. The average term of this service is two weeks. It is not in our mission to provide long term care.

If you have a need that WeCare can help with please feel free to email us WeCare@beth-david.org
