Over the past several years I have watched Mike & Blake fundraise, donate time, donate money, cook food (well maybe not actually 'cook' but buy food) and support every single possible cause they could. Whether it was a close friend, local family in town or even a complete stranger they will always step up to the support a family in need. It has always been inspiring to me, thats just the type of people they are.

Now we get the chance to finally either pay them back, pay it forward or just support them because we love them!! This site provides a place for people who want to be involved and lend a hand to do just that. Mike & Blake are in for a long battle ahead and I hope this site can help bring us all together and provide the best support possible.

Thanks again for taking the time to visit our site.

The Hogan's Helping Hands
Raynham, MA

As the Hogan's "baseball family", we have been trying to come up with ideas to help them! We decided to create this website to assist with coordinating meals, rides for the kids, take out gift cards, etc! So.....welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands website aka "The Hogan's Helping Hands"!

Thank you so much for your generosity, thoughtfulness and desire to help.

I apologize in advance if you think we are being blunt. However, our mission is to ensure that your thoughtfulness directly translates to a tangible benefit to Patty, Brian and the Hogan family during this stressful time, and minimizes the stress on Brian & Patty in managing the network of generous and thoughtful friends who share a sincere desire to help.

Brian took a bad fall while at the beach with his family. He was feeling light headed & thought it was simply de-hydration. After being rushed to Beth Israel Hospital with a broken nose, fractured cheeks & several lost teeth, "Coach Hogan" was diagnosed with
a genetic heart problem.

On Saturday, 6/28, coach had open heart/aortic valve replacement at the Beth Israel. The doctors are hoping he will be well enough to be released on Tuesday, 7/1/14. From there, he will have a long road of recovery ahead of him.

He is scheduled to have facial surgery for his nose & cheek fractures on 7/9/14.

As you can all imagine, this has taken quite a toll on the Hogan Family & as their extended family, we want to do all we can to help ease the burden on the Hogans!

Saving Sonny
Scituate, MA

Sonny is a two year old boy living in Massachusetts fighting a rare genetic disease called IPEX.  Most children do not survive past two and this little fighter is beating the odds.  Sonny will be three in September and will spend his birthday in Seattle, WA where the experts on his disease will begin testing and perform labs to start the long process of getting Sonny the help he needs to beat this disease!  At the end of September the family needs to fly to Seattle to meet with the new team and begin a medical treatment plan.  Between travel expenses, lost wages, medical expenses, and the costs associated with their final move cross country late fall the family needs all the help they can get!!

After a failed engraftment from the bone marrow transplant he received at Children's Hospital Boston Sonny now suffers transplant complications in addition to the health issues associated with IPEX.  Sonny receives weekly antibody transfusions to help his weakened immune system fight viruses and bacteria that he could not otherwise fight.  He has also been on long-term medication to attempt to keep his symptoms at bay but his little body cannot be on them for long before the medications themselves start to cause growth, skeletal, and organ damage.

Sonny's best shot at a healthy and happy life is to relocate with his family to Seattle, Washington where the experts who discovered this rare disease can properly care for him.  Seattle Children's Hospital can offer him safer medications as well as a safer transplant regimen.  Let's pull together and help this family raise the funds they will need to move cross country, get their son the care he desperately needs, and give them hope for a healthier and happier life together.
If you would like to follow Sonny's journey go to his Facebook page, prayers for Sonny.

Heartworks of Rhode Island Caregiving Barrington, RI

Heartworks of Rhode Island
Barrington, RI

We can do no great things in life, only small things with great love." - Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Heartworks is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of women in Barrington, RI who get together once a month to share ideas on how to reach out to each other and people in our community experiencing unexpected life challenges, grief, loss and medical diagnoses.  It is similar to a book club but instead of reading, the participants plan to do simple acts of kindness in and around the community.  We try to take time in each meeting to discuss a topic about life that connects us to living in the present and being grateful for what we have.  Our mission statement is “To develop deeper relationships with our community and with each other by performing acts of kindness each month to those experiencing unexpected life challenges.”

The original Heartworks is an act of kindness group that was started by a woman named Megan McDowell of Bernardsville, NJ.  It was inspired by the outpouring of support that her family received as a result of 9/11.  Her brother-in-law, John Farrell, was killed in the WTC attacks.  Her family received so much support from their community by way of small random acts of kindness that it helped to sustain them during an incredibly difficult time.  She vowed that once she was back on her feet that she'd pay forward the simple acts of kindness to others that needed help.  She invited her friends to get together once a month for appetizers, beverages, good intentions and to relate on a "heart level".

Amy Ames started the The Barrington Heartworks in May of 2007.  It started in her living room with 12 friends and has grown in size to over 200 members.  It is a unique experience as the meetings center around developing closer relationships within the group but also around performing various small acts of kindness for people in our town and wider community.  Anyone is invited to attend.  The meetings are usually the second Wednesday of every month.  It is an all-denominational group.

For more information about the Barrington Heartworks, email Heartworksri@gmail.com

If you would like to make a financial contribution to support the mission of Heartworks, please click on the "donate" button below.  Heartworks RI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.
