She is unable to drive and fairly immobilized - so any help is greatly appreciated!

Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church - Caring Servants + Lay MInisters
Acton, MA

Welcome to the Mt. Calvary - Lotsa Helping Hands Caring Servants Community. This website provides a coordinated schedule system for people to serve by walking with others as we do life together. We love others by lending a hand. This website is part of the Caring Servants Ministry at MCLC. As a church family, we provide meals, transportation to appointments, spiritual companionship, and other caring services in times of need.

“Mt. Calvary is more than a church you visit once a week to listen to a sermon. It is a community that follows our savior, Jesus Christ, in practical ways that are life-giving. Christian friendship is shared in faith life, life groups, opportunities to serve, and groups and programs for Mt. Calvary Kids & Youth. It begins with a casual conversation or cup of coffee with a new friend. We’ve found a home in the Mt. Calvary faith community. There is more here than we ever expected.”

Bellingham Mommy & Me Book Club Organizing a Learning/Play Time for Preschoolers Bellingham, MA
community photo

Bellingham Mommy & Me Book Club
Bellingham, MA

This site has been created to organize a Mommy & Me Preschooler's Book Club at the Bellingham Youth Center once a week for an hour and a half (9:00am - 10:30am on Fridays).

All local mommies and their little ones are invited to join us. The only requirement is that every mommy must sign up to help with an activity at least once a month.

Each book club meeting will include a gathering activity, circle time (when we read the book of the week), an art activity, a snack, and a game. Each of the activities will be related to the book of the week.

Each Saturday, an email will be sent to all of the mommies detailing that Friday's book of the week and the suggested activities (mommies are free to suggest their own activities, as long as they relate to that week's book). Mommies can then come here to the community site to sign up for the activity they would like to be responsible for that week.

Nothing is set in stone, times can be changed if you can only do an hour or if you can do more it can all be edited. We can also add future times/dates for drs. appts. if you are available to do that. We are working on a temporary placard for parking to make things easier too.

Hospitality Homes Volunteer Host Home Network Boston, MA
community photo

Hospitality Homes
Boston, MA

Hospitality Homes provides free short-term housing in volunteer host homes for families and friends of patients seeking care at Boston-area medical facilities.

Since 1983, this unique, home-away-from-home lodging option has provided financial and emotional relief to visitors in need. Cumulatively, we have provided over 170,000 nights of lodging to 14,500 families. Hospitality Homes is the only hospital housing program in the Boston area that is open to all families regardless of nationality, income, age, illness, or treatment facility.

We are always looking for new volunteer hosts to join our network. As a host, you volunteer only when it is convenient for you, from the comfort of your own home. The only requirements of hosting are to provide a clean, comfortable place for guests to sleep and access to a bathroom; the rest of your hosting experience can be tailored to fit your lifestyle. Guests are responsible for their own meals and transportation.

To learn more about this unique and rewarding volunteer opportunity, or to fill out a volunteer application, please visit our website at http://www.hosp.org or call 1-888-595-4678. Thank you and we look forward to hearing from you.

Frank and Jodi Dickie have 3 children. Two live at home as well as Frank's mom who is ill and Jodi's mom who helps take Jodi to her doctor appointments. Her youngest daughter, Joan Ruth is 8 years old and attends the Memorial School.

The family continues to stay positive and they are living for each precious moment. Please support this family as best you can.

Kathy 's Kidney Donation
Cambridge, MA

On September 3, 2013, our friend Kathy Watkins will be donating a kidney to friend and former coworker Peggy Heggarty Steck. So many of us have seen Kathy's generosity firsthand in the past, but this is a new, almost unbelievable level of giving.

Please check out this website to learn more about:

  • How you can help Kathy and her husband Jon during the immediate recovery period;
  • Peggy's experience, and the impact Kathy's kidney donation will have on Peggy and her family;
  • How you can support causes important to Peggy and Kathy in honor of this special event; and,
  • How to give the gift of life to other patients like Peggy through live kidney donation and other organ donor programs.

You can also send messages to Kathy via facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KatherineFayeWatkins?fref=ts.  And thank you for understanding that while Kathy may not be able to respond directly to your message, everyone's good wishes will be read and much appreciated.

Cards can be mailed to Kathy's home at 38 Valentine Street, Cambridge, MA 02139.

Please feel free to contact me if you would like any additional information or if I can help you in any way.  Please also feel free to pass this info along to anyone else who you think may be interested in this website.

Kathy and Peggy are two wonderful people who give so much to their families, friends and communities.  It is truly a real life miracle to have their lives come together in this way, and thanks to everyone who is supporting them on this journey.

Best,

Helping Hands for Jill!
Clinton, MA

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. This site will be the place to go to get updates about Jill's treatment and progress, and also to sign up to help with meals and anything else that she, Jim, and Maryann might need.

Our goal for this site is to help make her recovery process as easy as possible. You can check the calendar section on a weekly basis, and once she has had her surgery, we will post updates here so that she is not inundated with phone calls.

The first calendar that I have set up is for meals only. We planned on having three per week so the family is not overwhelmed with food. Jill's surgery is scheduled for April 4th, so the meals will start the day before. When you bring your meal, please place it in the cooler that will be located by the garage in the driveway. Please DO NOT ring the doorbell or go into the house, as we want to allow Jill and her family the privacy she will need to recover fully.

I will post another calendar once Jill and Jim determine how many "check-ins" she may need after the surgery. That information will become available at a later date.

Thank you so much for joining this site and for your willingness to help Jill and her family during this difficult phase of her life.

If you have the ability and the time you are welcome to sign up to help the family by taking one thing off their mind. The family's time is much better spent with Mary rather than shopping and cooking dinner every day.

We all want to help and this is a simple yet meaningful way to support the family at this difficult time.

Thank you for all your support.

KidzKIND Hands-on volunteering activities for kids and parents Concord, MA
community photo

KidzKIND
Concord, MA

Welcome to KidzKIND!

KidzKIND is a community of parents and kids who engage in simple, short, hands-on activities that give back to the community and people in need. (Don’t tell your kids but it also builds connection, character, and confidence in your child.)

Are screens a dominant part your kids' daily lives?

Do you ever worry that all of that screen-time might stunt their compassion and ability to have real-world interaction with others?

I do! I am a parent of two children aged 12 and 11. While I love technology, I also know that we need to make thoughtful decisions to spend time with our kids to help them build compassion for real, living and breathing people! Not just the kind that are on TV or on YouTube.

Our first “short and sweet” service project will be at Gaining Ground in Concord, MA. http://gainingground.org

WHAT: Harvesting fruit and vegetables at Gaining Ground, which grows organic produce for hunger relief with help from volunteers of all ages and abilities, who work and learn in their garden. In short, they grow food and give it away to people who need it. For free.

WHEN: Saturday, August 17 9-11 am (I said short and sweet: perhaps a trip for ice cream after??)

WHERE: Gaining Ground is located at the Thoreau Birthplace Farm property at 341 Virginia Rd, Concord, MA 01742.

We hope to see you there!!

Compassionately,
Jill, Adam, Rachel, and Carlos Zimmerman-Diaz

One small step for kids
One giant leap for KidzKIND!

We have created the "Papp Family Meal Train" to help Rob, Clarice and Jason with meals.

If you are able, please sign a day that you can bring over a meal to their home to help them in easing their already stressful lives. You can either make a meal homemade or have a meal delivered directly to their home. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cynthia Clare Riddle Caregiving for friend with IBM Harvard, MA
community photo

Cynthia Clare Riddle
Harvard, MA

My name is Jan Bergstrom and I was a part of the Brugh Joy community back in the day.  Some of you may remember me; as I am a good friend of Cynthia Riddle’s. We met at Actualizations around 1983 and have remained friends since. As you know she was diagnosed with Inclusive Body Myositis about five years ago, and as the years have gone by this disease has become continually more disabling. Currently, there is no real treatment to stop the progression of this disease.

For more information about Inclusive Body Myositis please visit this website. www.ninds.nih.gov/disorders/inclusion_body_myositis/inclusion_body_myositis.htm

I visited Cynthia last fall, to help her with organizing and cleaning her home.  I spent almost two days there, cleaning, doing laundry, throwing things away and compiling bags for donation.   The next day I fixed her closet and took her shopping to get garage shelving for storage. All the while I was sadly shocked to see how truly compromised she has become due to this disease.

Cynthia, being the fighter she is, never really complains or says much about how hard things are.   Now, not being able to walk up stairs, the challenges facing her are growing.  With her two daughters Emily and Julia, ages 10 and 6 at home and her husband only recently back at work, balancing finances, family time and health is a tall order to fill by herself. She is currently receiving disability help and benefits however, the help was unreliable.

I reached out to all of you to help donate money for her cause.  We were able to raise enough money to bring in a home helper starting in November of 2012 until this June 2013.  Her name is Kathy Choma and she has been coming 3 days a week for a 1 ½ hours to help Cynthia with household chores.

I know that times are difficult and if any of you could still donate money, please send to my address below with checks made out to me.

Another idea that I have come up with to help her is this website site called: www.lotsahelpinghands.com

This website if you decide to join, will have a list and calendar that if you can donate your time to help with the various tasks around the house would be so appreciated.

Any and all support will be put to excellent use!

Thank you again for your generous support!

Warmest Regards,

Jan Bergstrom

Please consider donating a meal, a healthy snack, or a fun activity (color books, cards, games) to his son Dylan. Hopedale is an amazing community and it would be amazing if we could help this family out in a time of tragedy. Please deliver all meals and snacks to the coolers that will be provided at Christina's house. Thank you so much and I am sure they will appreciate it.

As many of you may already know, our friend Kathy Leblanc has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer. Kathy will be receiving chemo & radiation to shrink her tumor and then have surgery to remove the tumor. In order to help Kathy focus on getting better I'd like to organize meals for Kathy, Chris & Colin. Perhaps also schedule drives to & from chemo as needed. Once Kathy meets with her doctors we'll have a better idea of what will be needed & when. Please sign up if you are interested in helping out.

Many thanks,

James Warren's Twelve Week Walk to Freedom
Lincoln, MA

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site.

You will need to take a moment to JOIN THE COMMUNITY, and then you will be able to see the calendar and sign up to help James.

While our mutual brother, James, is going through his quest for renewed health, this site is to assist all of us from his and Dorothy's various community circles to mutually come together as a healing and helping force.

There are four ways we all can chip in and this one management tool is designed to helps coordinate all of that: Here are the major categories to look for:

Visitation - Two key factors here are the scheduling (making sure James is available) and balancing (making sure we don't all show up on one day with no one visiting for the rest of the week).

Transportation - from time to time James will need a ride to and from appointments, treatments and meetings. Volunteers with wheels will need to be plentiful as this is sometimes randomly occurring need.

Cooking - What James can eat and what nourishes him is a very specific and yet moving target. Volunteers should work directly with Dorothy and James when providing meals and suppliments.

Finite projects - These are things like cleaning James' Nashua home and other event-specific projects that we will list on the calendar on this site. The more volunteers the merrier!

We will have spokes to each of the sorrounding circles of friends so that all of us rooting for James can keep maximally informed and can rely on each other in providing the best care possible. Thank you all for your love and dedication.

If you need to reach James for a calendar event your signed up for call him at 603-860-5699.

Over the past several years I have watched Mike & Blake fundraise, donate time, donate money, cook food (well maybe not actually 'cook' but buy food) and support every single possible cause they could. Whether it was a close friend, local family in town or even a complete stranger they will always step up to the support a family in need. It has always been inspiring to me, thats just the type of people they are.

Now we get the chance to finally either pay them back, pay it forward or just support them because we love them!! This site provides a place for people who want to be involved and lend a hand to do just that. Mike & Blake are in for a long battle ahead and I hope this site can help bring us all together and provide the best support possible.

Thanks again for taking the time to visit our site.

It's a not-for-profit and not-for-political-gain website created and under development by and for Milton residents who are clearly identified with contact information below.

While originally created to upload hydrant location files we created for online access and for Milton's elderly, disabled, sick, pregnant and single parent residents, the capabilities of the site are unlimited. Any and all suggestions welcome.

This Milton MA website extends beyond Facebook's capabilities by collecting and organizing information from across Milton's various Facebook Pages along with information on our Town's many resources. All available on your smartphone!

Neighborhood Associations are invited to create their own Community website using Lotsa Helping Hands to build a network throughout our town. Switch from one community to another at the touch of a fingertip!

For safety reasons, registration is required so sign up or reach out to co-ordinators listed below for help.

Beth El's Caring Community
Needham, MA

Welcome to Beth El's Caring Community! For many years you have known us as Hevra Mishpacha; don't worry, we are still the same group, and still use the Hevra Mishpacha name, as well as the Caring Community. Hevra Mishpacha (HM) actually means "group of family/community", so calling ourselves a Caring Community is an pretty reasonable English translation!

We have moved the Caring Community online to make it easier to coordinate care for our community.
1. If you are looking for support, the HM monthly coordinator will still be your contact point. This person will enter your information into the website, and community members can then sign up online to provide support.
2. If you want to volunteer to help, simply log in to our website, check the calendar to see what needs there are, and sign up to provide care. If there is nothing listed, check back another time!
3. We continue to be respectful of privacy needs. If you are looking for support and do not wish for it to be on the community website, please let the monthly coordinator know and she/he will handle it privately.

Claude's Helping Hands

Because I have been entered into a Chemotherapy Clinical Trial, and am already experiencing some debilitating side-effects, I have created this community as a way to ask for help without putting anyone directly on the spot.

Many of you have offered to help, in any way you are able. I hope you will be able to commit to one or two tasks I post here.  This method allows me to post a need, and anyone can decide to take on the challenge.  I do not have to make multiple phone calls, and no one has to feel obliged to say yes.  This also allows everyone to see which tasks have been taken, and who will be performing it.  Again, avoiding many phone calls.

The Hogan's Helping Hands
Raynham, MA

As the Hogan's "baseball family", we have been trying to come up with ideas to help them! We decided to create this website to assist with coordinating meals, rides for the kids, take out gift cards, etc! So.....welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands website aka "The Hogan's Helping Hands"!

Thank you so much for your generosity, thoughtfulness and desire to help.

I apologize in advance if you think we are being blunt. However, our mission is to ensure that your thoughtfulness directly translates to a tangible benefit to Patty, Brian and the Hogan family during this stressful time, and minimizes the stress on Brian & Patty in managing the network of generous and thoughtful friends who share a sincere desire to help.

Brian took a bad fall while at the beach with his family. He was feeling light headed & thought it was simply de-hydration. After being rushed to Beth Israel Hospital with a broken nose, fractured cheeks & several lost teeth, "Coach Hogan" was diagnosed with
a genetic heart problem.

On Saturday, 6/28, coach had open heart/aortic valve replacement at the Beth Israel. The doctors are hoping he will be well enough to be released on Tuesday, 7/1/14. From there, he will have a long road of recovery ahead of him.

He is scheduled to have facial surgery for his nose & cheek fractures on 7/9/14.

As you can all imagine, this has taken quite a toll on the Hogan Family & as their extended family, we want to do all we can to help ease the burden on the Hogans!

SMILE Mass
Sudbury, MA

SMILE Mass is non-profit based in Sudbury, Massachusetts. Our mission is to help families living with children or adults with disabilities create happy healthy memories through recreation and vacation experiences.

SMILE Mass has volunteer opportunities that range from a couple of hours on a particular day, to longer term commitments.

We currently have a loaner program, where families requesting beach wheelchairs, joggers, sleds, etc, can request to borrow a piece of equipment from our loaner inventory. We sometimes need help delivering these pieces of equipment to the requesting family. This delivery could be in the local metro-west area, or it could be on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, at a lake or beach in New Hampshire or Maine, etc.

SMILE Mass also has events where we need help on a particular day to help set up, registration at the event, selling raffle tickets, clean up, etc. These commitments can range from a couple of hours to the entire day. Whatever fits into your schedule at a particular time.

For more information, email us at info@smilemass.org.

Thank you!

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to say that we can't tell you all enough how lucky we feel to have such wonderful friends who continually show so much support and love.

We created this page to help Cheryl, Wayne and the rest of the family share their updates. It's also a great place to keep everyone posted about meal schedules because everyone keeps asking what they can cook for dinner and what night. This page will help alleviate any confusion and that way if Cheryl can't respond, you will have the info right at your finger tips.

Please continue to send prayers and positive thoughts.

Fessy Community Cares about Mr. & Mrs. Naiman
West Newton, MA

The Fessy Community Cares Committee provides thoughtful support to members of the Fessy Community (faculty, staff, students, parents) who are in need of comfort due to illness, disability or loss. We also delight in celebrating the milestones in the community such as birth of a child, marriage, achievements and awards. We work confidentially and behind the scenes to provide a card, gift, meal, transportation, or what is needed. Our committee relies on the parent body as well as the faculty and staff to alert us to a need within the community. Please keep us in mind when you hear of a member of our community that could benefit from our support.

In this case, Mr. Naiman and his family are in need of our support in providing meals to his family during the period of his wife's illness. Please help out by signing up! Meals should serve 2-4 people, no hungry boys in their house! Please bring the meal to Nancy Hokinson's refrigerator in the corner of her office, between 7:30am-3:00pm. Thank you!

2nd Church - Get Connected
West Newton, MA

Welcome to our 2nd Church - Get Connected website, a place where we can match people's talents and abilities with our church community's needs. Please take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the many opportunities, large and small, to lend a hand and build connections with fellow congregants. There is absolutely no pressure to commit to anything, only opportunities as you are interested and available to help!
On a related note, if you have a particular passion or need you would like to offer up--and don't see it represented here--please contact Dana or Mary Beth. We are wide open to suggestions.

Heartworks of Rhode Island Caregiving Barrington, RI

Heartworks of Rhode Island
Barrington, RI

We can do no great things in life, only small things with great love." - Mother Teresa of Calcutta

Heartworks is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization comprised of women in Barrington, RI who get together once a month to share ideas on how to reach out to each other and people in our community experiencing unexpected life challenges, grief, loss and medical diagnoses.  It is similar to a book club but instead of reading, the participants plan to do simple acts of kindness in and around the community.  We try to take time in each meeting to discuss a topic about life that connects us to living in the present and being grateful for what we have.  Our mission statement is “To develop deeper relationships with our community and with each other by performing acts of kindness each month to those experiencing unexpected life challenges.”

The original Heartworks is an act of kindness group that was started by a woman named Megan McDowell of Bernardsville, NJ.  It was inspired by the outpouring of support that her family received as a result of 9/11.  Her brother-in-law, John Farrell, was killed in the WTC attacks.  Her family received so much support from their community by way of small random acts of kindness that it helped to sustain them during an incredibly difficult time.  She vowed that once she was back on her feet that she'd pay forward the simple acts of kindness to others that needed help.  She invited her friends to get together once a month for appetizers, beverages, good intentions and to relate on a "heart level".

Amy Ames started the The Barrington Heartworks in May of 2007.  It started in her living room with 12 friends and has grown in size to over 200 members.  It is a unique experience as the meetings center around developing closer relationships within the group but also around performing various small acts of kindness for people in our town and wider community.  Anyone is invited to attend.  The meetings are usually the second Wednesday of every month.  It is an all-denominational group.

For more information about the Barrington Heartworks, email Heartworksri@gmail.com

If you would like to make a financial contribution to support the mission of Heartworks, please click on the "donate" button below.  Heartworks RI is a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation.

Books Are Wings
Pawtucket, RI

Books Are Wings’ mission is Putting Free Books in the Hands of Children. The core vehicle for mission fulfillment are the Book Party Programs. Through these programs, Books Are Wings targets children from lower income families who are most affected by factors contributing to gaps in reading. The programs are based on Rhode Island’s Common Core standards in which students are ready for the complex reading of college and career readiness. They introduce students to a variety of texts, and provide rich language experiences. The program is based on a research studied story time model to increase motivation to read, increase book awareness and provide exposure to reading materials.

Helping Hands for the Quigley's
Rumford, RI

Welcome to our Helping Hands for the Quigley's web site.  The first thing you need to do is become a member, then you will get an email to log back in.  The site then allows you to pick a date and reserve it.  This helps with no double meals. This site was put together in hopes that we can bring one meal every other day  to the Quigley home. This site provides a place for you to sign up and reserve a specific date. If you live out of state or would rather order a meal, we have collaborated with a local resturaunt who has DELICIOUS prepared meals at The Pantry.  The phone number is 401-228-6691.  They are located on the same street as the Quigley's and are aware of what will be needed. They have been so accomodating  and will be  delivering  the meals at no extra charge. All you have to do is call the day you have signed up to provide a meal. If you choose to make a meal it will be for Nicole and Charlotte.  Simply sign up from the Calendar section and you will deliver your meal that day.  Please do not hesitate to email me or call me at anytime if you have any questions. Thanks, Sarah Bates

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. This site provides a place for people in our area to go to request help as well as for volunteers to offer help and lend a hand. Patrick was diagnosed with T-cell Leukemia. He is in Dana Farber Hospital and will be there for over a month. When he is released he will be confined to his home for 7 or 8 months. The Cooney Family has another younger child. There main concerns right now are:
1) Preparing a safe, sterile environment for Patrick when he returns home. They were told they needed to remove most of their pets, including Patrick's beloved bird. They are hoping to find someone to home him temporarily so he can return to Patrick when he is better.
2) Meals for the family. Laura and Greg will be spending much of their time in Boston. When they have free time they would like to devote as much as they can to their daughter and other son. If we can help them not have to worry about a meal or picking up bread and milk - we can relieve some of their stress and burden.
