It’s been nearly one year since we launched the STI Cancer Support Network, and there have been some absolutely incredible efforts and opportunities that have been identified and acted upon. STI has been at costumed fundraisers, all-night relays, and at the side of employees recently diagnosed with cancer, currently undergoing treatment for cancer, celebrating a cancer-free proclamation, or mourning the loss of a love one. Through it all, we have been Driven to Eliminate Cancer!

No matter the situation, the goal of the STI CSN is to make sure that everyone within our family understands that they are never alone. Much like coping with cancer, the STI CSN is not a sprint – it is a marathon, a journey that we all share together. We should never be content with simply meeting the current needs of a co-worker, community member or cause (thought this is truly awesome), patting each other on the back in celebration (though this is truly deserved), and just going on with our day. Let’s continue the fight. Let’s continue to stand up and provide strength, encouragement, and hope – together. This year, be part of the STI CSN and something completely out-of-the-box, completely ridiculous, completely needed. Help us get to where each and every employee, as one team, identified a cancer-related cause and does amazing things! Lets us get to where each and every employee, as one team, wears a blue wrist band as a show of awareness and support for those in need.

On January 25th, 2014 around 4:30 am we were woken up by our dog Trixie barking to what we thought was just tree limbs falling due to ice. We went outside to our neighbors house engulfed in flames. My boyfriend tried breaking in the windows and down the door but the smoke was extremely bad, as I called 911 and woke our neighbors on the other side of Linda's house. He managed to get Linda off of the back porch with a ladder and we covered her in blankets as the police arrived. It is our goal to raise money to help with any medical expenses or any other expenses that she may have due to the loss. Please take a moment to donate even $1, every penny counts. Anybody who has walked into Hillel in the last three decades knows SELMA! She's the warm heartbeat of the school and a beloved member of our community. Selma and Bill's daughter, Fayth, has been valiantly battling cancer for some time, and Selma's by her bedside in Baltimore. There's so little we can do to help, but one small stress we can take off of Selma's shoulders is making sure her 'guys' are fed and cared for. This calendar is to organize us, so we don't step all over one another's toes.

We'll do this one week at a time, and ask whether you'd like to prepare a meal for Bill, and their son, Marty. Two guys, who like milchigs as much as fleishigs. Bill will be happy to stop by the Hillel office between 4:15-4:45 and pick up the meal each night. Please join us in giving Selma a virtual hug in this small way.
