Steve Ozzano, television executive, devoted father and husband, died April 18 in Norwalk Hospital after a two month battle with peritonitis.

Phyllis' Friends
Stamford, CT

Dear Friends & Family,
Two weeks ago we got the news that Mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was the night before Eamon was going back to London and we all had very heavy hearts. To see a woman who is so strong and with a heart of gold have to get such a diagnosis...it would break your heart. Although, through our night together as a family we quickly realized that not only is she a fighter, but we have a tremendous amount of love in our "little" family that we could overcome this little "bump in the road".

RIght away Mom made us all promise to share the news. She wants to make sure that any woman that hasn't gotten a mammogram will...she wants to raise the level of awareness for cancer prevention. Amazingly for us Mom has the most amazing doctor, Dr. Donna Marie Manasseh, and she even came to their house and spent a few hours going over all of the details of what would lie ahead. The company that we work for, William Raveis Real Estate, also gives a portion of all of the commissions to breast cancer research and care, and as Bill Raveis called Mom last Sunday morning we really knew that we had a full team behind us in this fight.

Mom has been so touched by the amount of love, care, kindness & support that she has felt in the last week or so since her diagnosis. She has received numerous calls, mass cards, e-mails, messages, novenas plus an abundous of loving thoughts! She truly is an amazing woman and touches nearly every person she meets!

She is especially loved by her three grandchildren, Bridget, Ronan & Fearghus. They love their Granny so much and will kiss all of the booboos goodbye! She'll be getting lots of love, hugs and kisses from them today and always.

Phyllis' Friends gives us a way to let everyone know what is going on as we move forward. It is a great way to share well wishes, thoughts, memories, & photos with her and all of us!

Please feel free to post on here as she will be monitoring the web-site all the time :)

Love Always,
Denise, Dad, Kevin, Eamon, Bridget, Ronan & Fearghus

Jared Dubro Visit with Jared and help to stimulate his senses. He is in a coma. New Rochelle, NY
community photo

Jared Dubro
New Rochelle, NY

Jared Dubro has been in a coma since April 5. Jared is a 25 year old doctoral student at the Adler School of Psychology in Chicago. He had a massive stroke on April 5, caused by an accumulation of fluid in the brain, a condition called hydrocephalus.

We are confident that with your help, and using a method called “coma stimulation”, we are going to get Jared to wake up from the coma, and with intensive therapy, resume his life again.

Studies have shown that talking to coma patients and playing music to coma patients are very effective.  Having a variety of visitors provides different voices and different personalities, we hope will encourage Jared to wake up from his coma.

Thank you so much for volunteering to help bring Jared back to consciousness!

We are asking volunteers to help in one of two ways
1. Auditory stimulation
2. Touch stimulation

Instructions on these types of stimulation are below.

Auditory stimulation:

  • When you meet Jared, identify yourself.
  • Talk slowly and in a normal tone of voice.
  • Keep sentences short and give Jared extra time to think about what you have said.
  • Tell Jared the date, time, place and reason for your visit.
  • Explain to Jared what you are going to talk about or do.
  • Only one person should speak at a time.
  • You should talk about any topic that interests you - news, sports, television program, book you are reading, Torah, the weather.  Whatever you want to talk about.
  • You can read to Jared from the newspaper, a magazine, or a book.
  • Avoid stimulation that evokes a startled response. This type of stimulation is counterproductive.

Motion stimulation:

This section is a work in progress. We will provide a video of range of motion exercises.
Basically, range of motion exercises are done on the joints, to flex and and stretch the joints and get the circulation going.
It also helps to prevent the muscles from getting atrophied.

If Jared is in a rocking chair, it is good to rock him.

Do not raise and lower the bed.

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. This site provides a place for people in our area to go to request help as well as for volunteers to offer help and lend a hand.
TO MAKE A DONATION TO SUPPORT CHRIS PLEASE GO TO:
helpchrisscott.com

On July 30th, 2014, Christopher Scott, suffered a catastrophic and life-changing spinal cord injury.
Chris, 27, was working as a skydiving instructor on Long Island, doing a tandem jump with a student, when something went terribly wrong. A ‘Dust Devil’, which is a small tornado, collapsed the parachute. Tragically, the student he was jumping with died at the scene.
Chris was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital and underwent several operations to save his life. Chris had sustained multiple injuries, the most serious being a broken neck and severe trauma to his spinal cord (complete spinal cord injury). This catastrophic injury has left Chris permanently paralyzed from the shoulders down.
After a month at Stony Brook he was flown to The Shepherd Center in Atlanta, which specializes in medical treatment, research, and rehabilitation for people with spinal cord and brain injuries. It is one of the top facilities in the country.

Chris spent 60 days at Shepherd. He is now living in New York City in the same apartment building as his family. He made remarkable progress at Shepherd getting off the respirator and strengthening his neck and shoulders. The process to regain movement will be a longer journey requiring ongoing rehab.

Although Chris's major medical expenses will be covered by insurance, his need for 24/7 continuous care and many other expenses will NOT be covered. Also NOT covered by insurance are new and advanced treatments that continue to be developed which could help Chris lead a more independent life.

The Help Chris Scott Trust Fund (helpchrisscott.com) has been established to help defray these costs. NO DONATION IS TOO SMALL. In addition, sharing this link far and wide could be extremely powerful. Please, consider sending this link via email, posting on your Facebook page, spreading by word of mouth or in any other way you see fit to help spread Chris’ story and generate donations. Every dollar of every donation supports Chris’s current and life-long needs.
TO MAKE A DONATION: helpchrisscott.com

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT

The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful guidance it has received from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation.

Welcome to the Friends of The McCarthy's website. Allison & Mark are humbled by the support they have received so far from their Rye friends. They would like to thank you for your kindness, generosity and willingness to support them during this difficult time.

There are two areas where you can help; childcare & preparing evening meals. With regards to organizing play dates or picking the kids up from school, it makes sense for this to be done by Midland parents or by parents with kids familiar with the McCarthy's children.

Regarding evening meals, when signing up for meal drop off, please indicate what specific meal you are preparing to avoid duplicates. Please leave these on the front porch (in disposable dish ware) by 5pm. Do not ring the door bell. I'm sure there will be times when Allison will want to see a friendly face, but lets leave it up to her. Thanking you in advance, your kindness is so appreciated.

If you are not already affiliated with this site, please log in as a 'new member'. You will then have access to sign up for days/time slots when you are available to help.

The family has asked that any donations in Marks name be made to the Temple Beth Abraham General Fund.

Our hearts, prayers and thoughts are with Jodie, Leah, Hannah, Jessica, Jodie's parents: Diane and Richard Lane, and Mark's parents: Sandy and Allan Monack.

May the memory of Mark's life always be a blessing, and may we all share in the mitzvah of comforting those who mourn.
