Jodi was diagnosed with breast cancer on St. Patrick's Day, 2011. She has been fighting it on and off for 2 years. The cancer has unfortunately returned. She is currently in stage 4 and about to start her 8th round of heavy duty chemo to stop the cancer from spreading.

Frank and Jodi Dickie have 3 children. Two live at home as well as Frank's mom who is ill and Jodi's mom who helps take Jodi to her doctor appointments. Her youngest daughter, Joan Ruth is 8 years old and attends the Memorial School.

The family continues to stay positive and they are living for each precious moment. Please support this family as best you can.

I do! I am a parent of two children aged 12 and 11. While I love technology, I also know that we need to make thoughtful decisions to spend time with our kids to help them build compassion for real, living and breathing people! Not just the kind that are on TV or on YouTube.

Our first “short and sweet” service project will be at Gaining Ground in Concord, MA. http://gainingground.org

WHAT: Harvesting fruit and vegetables at Gaining Ground, which grows organic produce for hunger relief with help from volunteers of all ages and abilities, who work and learn in their garden. In short, they grow food and give it away to people who need it. For free.

WHEN: Saturday, August 17 9-11 am (I said short and sweet: perhaps a trip for ice cream after??)

My name is Jan Bergstrom and I was a part of the Brugh Joy community back in the day.  Some of you may remember me; as I am a good friend of Cynthia Riddle’s. We met at Actualizations around 1983 and have remained friends since. As you know she was diagnosed with Inclusive Body Myositis about five years ago, and as the years have gone by this disease has become continually more disabling. Currently, there is no real treatment to stop the progression of this disease.

I visited Cynthia last fall, to help her with organizing and cleaning her home.  I spent almost two days there, cleaning, doing laundry, throwing things away and compiling bags for donation.   The next day I fixed her closet and took her shopping to get garage shelving for storage. All the while I was sadly shocked to see how truly compromised she has become due to this disease. 

Cynthia, being the fighter she is, never really complains or says much about how hard things are.   Now, not being able to walk up stairs, the challenges facing her are growing.  With her two daughters Emily and Julia, ages 10 and 6 at home and her husband only recently back at work, balancing finances, family time and health is a tall order to fill by herself. She is currently receiving disability help and benefits however, the help was unreliable.    

I reached out to all of you to help donate money for her cause.  We were able to raise enough money to bring in a home helper starting in November of 2012 until this June 2013.  Her name is Kathy Choma and she has been coming 3 days a week for a 1 ½ hours to help Cynthia with household chores.  

I know that times are difficult and if any of you could still donate money, please send to my address below with checks made out to me.

While our mutual brother, James, is going through his quest for renewed health, this site is to assist all of us from his and Dorothy's various community circles to mutually come together as a healing and helping force.

There are four ways we all can chip in and this one management tool is designed to helps coordinate all of that: Here are the major categories to look for:

Visitation - Two key factors here are the scheduling (making sure James is available) and balancing (making sure we don't all show up on one day with no one visiting for the rest of the week).

Transportation - from time to time James will need a ride to and from appointments, treatments and meetings. Volunteers with wheels will need to be plentiful as this is sometimes randomly occurring need.

Cooking - What James can eat and what nourishes him is a very specific and yet moving target. Volunteers should work directly with Dorothy and James when providing meals and suppliments.

Finite projects - These are things like cleaning James' Nashua home and other event-specific projects that we will list on the calendar on this site. The more volunteers the merrier!

We will have spokes to each of the sorrounding circles of friends so that all of us rooting for James can keep maximally informed and can rely on each other in providing the best care possible. Thank you all for your love and dedication.

Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. I am creating this website as a source of help and support for us while my wife prepares for, undergoes and rehabs from a right below the knee amputation to put an end to a lifetime of excruciating pain from a failing foot and ankle.

Anyone who knows Melissa knows that she has always struggled with her leg. She was originally born with a right clubbed foot and has sufferd numerous injuries and complications over the past 33 years. She has undergone 11 foot and ankle reconstructions, countless procedures, multiple blood clots, excruciating pain, and years in casts/braces and on crutches. She is the most skilled person you will see on crutches. People have to struggle to keep up with her.

Unfortunately, her ankle joint finally failed ths past summer and the pain has been intractable since. They have put her on morphine and on a kneeling scooter for transportation to keep her relatively comfortable until surgery. We have consulted all of the top foot and ankle surgeons and they all agree that there is nothing more they can do to save her leg. A below the knee amputation is her best option for a more mobile and pain-free life. We have thought long and hard about taking this next step and we are now prepared and ready to undergo this next chapter in our lives.

Through all of this, Melissa has fought through it all with an incredible attitude and work ethic, always with a smile and a positive attitude. When others would have given up, she has pushed through and trained even harder to keep the rest of herself strong and sharp. Despite all that has been going on, she has not only maintained but continually succeeds at her full time job managing clinical trials at Joslin Diabetes Center. She plans to work right up until surgery.

Surgery is scheduled for April 4 at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA. They will admit her 2 days prior to surgery, April 2, to start a continuous epidural nerve block to help prevent post surgical and phantom limb pain.

From the day Melissa knew she needed surgery, she has worked so hard to set up all the details of surgery and rehab. No detail has been overlooked. She put an incredible medical team together and we are all prepared and ready for this life altering surgery and chance of a pain free and more mobile life.

We are optimistic and hopeful, but danted by the amount of work such an event requires. We normally do not reach out for help, but we cannot go down this road alone. We are going to need a lot of prayers, help and support. Meissa's primary medical team wrote us a "prescription" for this website. We were told that it takes all of a caregiver to care for a loved one and a entire community to care for a caregiver. Please join us one our journey as we get Melissa a new leg. Help comes in many forms, from prayers and well wishes, to running errands, helping with transportation to rehab appts., or dropping off a hot meal. Please join our online community an help me help my beautiful, strong, amazing wife.

As most of you know, after having a headache for several days last week, Kelly suffered two presyncopal episodes last Friday that brought her to the ER at Nashoba then transferred to Mass General Hospital. During the course of ultimately diagnosing her with a Vertebral Artery Dissection, which was the cause of her initial symptoms, they also discovered that she had mass in the left ventricle of her brain. They believe that mass is a Neurocytoma. These are slow growing tumors and most often benign, but will have to be removed. Currently, the neurologists are focusing on treating the vertebral artery dissection with blood thinners for the next 3-6 months, allowing the artery to heal and preventing any further complications. After which time the neurosurgeons will take over her care to address the tumor.
Kelly was discharged from Mass General Hospital this evening with strict limitations on her activity and requires someone be with her at all times.
As a wife, mother, friend and nurse, Kelly has always cared for others before herself. Now she is going to need her large groups of friends and family to care for her and her family, to help them all through her recovery.
We have started this site to help organize meals, grocery shopping, rides, visits and anything else that comes up along the way that will take some of the burden off Kelly and her family.

Dina has been an active community volunteer for over a decade, she has spent countless hours dedicating her personal time to serve our community. Always willing to lend a hand when needed and lead projects and events to raise money for organizations including but not limited to the PTA and the PTC. However, right now she and her family could use a little help from other volunteers in our community.

As you all know, Dina suffered a stroke and is currently in rehab working hard at getting back on her feet. We have no doubt that when she does she will waste no time jumping back into her volunteer activities for our middle schools PTC. My name is Kay, I'm Jean's daughter. It has been a very long week, beginning Tuesday night when mom was taken to the ER for a broken hip and sacrum. She was released that night, but taken back in the middle of the night Thursday for a blood clot it her lung related to the break. Her recovery is at best 4-6 weeks and she is staying at the hospital for the time being. We deeply appreciate anything you can do to help us, and a huge thank you to everyone who has already gotten in touch with us.
