About Paul's Kicking Prostate Cancer's Butt Helping Hands Page

Yes, Prostate Cancer can be deadly... Just ask Paul. Earlier in 2014 at age 47 we found out he has metastatic prostate cancer to the lymph, bones, and liver and lungs. HE WASN'T EVEN DUE TO HAVE ANY PSA TESTS FOR ANOTHER 3 YEARS! His form is a pretty aggressive Gleason 4+4 with underlying 5's making it mostly 8 and 9.. That it had spread so fast and so widespread was unreal to us. That is was going to kill him was another shock. Then the chemo started... 3 weeks later he had a small bowel obstruction. Then that perforated, 2-3 more obstructions, and the wound dehisced... We never thought he would make it past that but somehow he did.... Only to be back in ICU with heart failure! His ejection fraction at 35% and cardiomyopathy possibly from nearly 2 months with no food, possibly from the chemo or some medications he takes. We may never know. For now... he is growing stronger and fighting this beast. His PSA had a slight rise last month. That worries us. His only treatment is Lupron currently which blocks his testosterone and squashes his cancer down. It is working- the innumerable mets in his lungs are no longer showing on scans. But for how long we won't know until it happens. We just got the go ahead from surgeon that he can re-start chemo, but cardiologist was pretty against it unless it was life or death... which it pretty much is. The chemo he had is known to cause heart issues as well as GI issues. He wants to start again, I am scared! So this is our page. To bring info, to build a support community for him (and me too) during the next couple years (and hopefully much longer) they say he has. Please think of helping us in some way- no gesture is too small... Just please, be present in our lives, and let's help Paul live out the remainder of his life with love, dignity and peace.
