About Amelia's Angels
Welcome to our Lotsa Helping Hands Community web site. This site provides a place for people in our area to go to request help as well as for volunteers to offer help and lend a hand.
This site has been established to assist the family of Amelia Hiltz, who suffered a traumatic brain injury in an accident in late 2012. Amelia has two young children (Charlotte and Theo) and a husband (Will) who works full time as a vascular surgeon. Amelia's Mom, Danna Mayhall, has moved from Arkansas to North Augusta to provide round-the-clock care for her daughter. A Certified Nursing Assistant visits Amelia once in the morning and once at night. Amelia's Dad, Brian Mayhall, commutes every other week to North Augusta from Arkansas to visit Danna, Amelia, and the family. Other than that, however, Danna is essentially on her own providing care for Amelia.
This volunteer site has been established to help provide Danna much needed respite on a regular basis. She needs some "down time" so that she can leave the house, go to the grocery, run errands, get exercise, keep appointments, enjoy a meal with friends, and do all the other things many of us take for granted.
If you have a minimum of TWO HOURS to share, please sign on as a volunteer in time slots that fit your schedule. NO SPECIAL MEDICAL TRAINING IS REQUIRED. Amelia is confined to either a hospital bed or wheelchair. You will not be responsible for any feeding, bathing, or toileting assistance. You may want to read to Amelia, hold her hand and talk to her, or give her legs and arms a gentle massage. There is a television in her room as well as a CD player with several of her favorite CD's.
Amelia's son Theo (15 months old) and 4 year old Charlotte will be returning home soon. Babysitting for the children may be another need for this family.
Danna also needs occasional help with housekeeping and laundry. If you're a neatnick and cleaning is more your cup of tea, SIGN ON! Any and all help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you for anything you are able to do to help this wonderful family who are dealing with so much right now. Let's help ease the stress if we can.
God Bless You!
